About Us

We're proud to be the 6th generation family-owners of Ruff Furniture.

Our history goes back to the 1840's, when our family opened a general store in the little cotton boom-town of Ridgeway.  Of course, they sold everything then.  From seed to sewing needles to sofas.  If you needed it, they'd have it.

Over time, the general store evolved into a furniture and hardware business.  My father, Walter Ruff, followed his father and grandfather into the business.  Just like him, I've worked here since I was old enough to empty waste baskets.  Today, I focus on fine furniture while my brother operates the hardware store across the street.

Our family has always understood the importance of building personal relationships.  You're not just our customers; you become our friends.  We consider it a privilege to help you fill your home with style and comfort that reflects who you are.  We want you to be happy every time you walk through your door.  That's why we specialize in custom orders.  We'll help you find exactly what you want.

After 160 years, we understand the timelessness of fine merchandise.   We seek out expert craftsmanship made in America that will stand the test of time.  Many families tell us that the furniture they've purchased from us has become treasured family heirlooms.  We think you'll find treasures here too.

Historic Ridgeway Takes You Back

Picture
Step off life's interstate, and enjoy the backroads.  In Historic Ridgeway,  the pace is slower, the people friendlier, and the charm of life seems to grow.  We're proud to call Ridgeway home.

You'll find that this little town captures your heart too.  There's a lot to see here: unique boutiques and restaurants, beautiful Lake Wateree, and so many people you'll feel like you've known forever.   No one stays a stranger long here.  Shopping in Ridgeway is like shopping used to be.

Here's a list of some of our other unique shops and restaurants (click on each link for more information or visit historicridgeway.com for a complete listing).

Laura's Tea Room serves high tea with all the trimmings.  Who doesn't like being treated like queen for a day?  Downstairs you can grab a quick sandwich or top off a day of shopping with fresh coffee and dessert.  Such a charming shop --not to be missed.

Over the Top is the perfect boutique for handbags, jewelry, and hats.  Everyone will be asking you where you shop when they see you in these styles.

Deanne's Creations makes handmade afghans, scarves, and baby blankets.  Gift baskets are a specialty.

Cotton Yard Market is a treasure hunter's paradise.  Consigned decor, jewelry, and accessories fill this store to the brim.

Just Around the Corner is our newest store - a high-end ladies clothing consignment store.  You just never know what amazing treats await you hear.

Ruff Hardware is an old-fashioned hardware store, one of those treasures only found in small towns now.  Sit around the wood stove and swap stories (or lies) with the regulars, or browse the aisles for things you thought they didn't make anymore.

Your visit to Ruff Furniture just might turn into a love affair with Ridgeway.
